February 28 Personal TRIUMPHS!!!I have been more committed to this challenge than any other diet attemps, workout attempts, or goal setting attemps! I have made great strides for myself throughout all of this and we have made some good friends inside and outside of this challenge because of our motivation to finish something we started. Some personal triumphs throughout this challenge for me have been getting off the couch and getting to the gym, when I type(say) this it seems now such a small thing (BUT IT IS HUGE FOR ME). Another triumph I have faced is what I am doing at the gym... before this challenge I was just jumping on a cardio machine and 'quick starting' it without putting in a lot of effort. BUT NOW, on the eliptical I choose the HILL INTERVAL TRAINING, on the treadmill I walk for 3 minutes, run for 3, walk for 4, run for 5 and so on..., on the stairmaster (BOY DOES THIS KICK MY ROYAL...etc.) I start on level 2 for a warmup and then kick it into gear at level 5 then 6, 7 and then back down again! One of my friends even joined me at the gym today for her first time in years and said I kicked her BUTT from her just following what I was doing! I have never been the one with the endurance, or drive to finish any kind of workout... KUDOS!
The final triumph I have made for myself would have to be feeling better about myself and not caring what others think about my looks... At the gym, I feel like nobody is there to judge or snicker, We are all there to become fit and healthy! It is not about looking like a bikini model straight out of the Victoria's Secret Catalog... it is about having the self confidence to wear one and feel comfortable about it. Although I am not there yet, I have changed one of my goals from "becoming a size 3" to feeling confident and comfortable in whatever size I may be in when I can wear a bikini and not feel like WOAAAHHH NO WAY!
So I say toast to feeling better about one's self and forget about SIZES!!!
~Tara I Did It!On 2/24 I blogged that I thought the 170's would be hit prior to weigh in. Well, I did not make the weight in but finally got there this morning...yeh! I just don't seem to lose more that 1 pound a week but I know that this is the way to permanantly get it off and keep it off so I am happy. As long as my weight is going in the right direction I am doing OK. I hope the rest of you struggling for bigger losses can look at any loss as a positive. Keep up the great job! Denise February 27 Winter Wonderland! The scenery was spectacular last night while Tara and I were driving home from our workout. It truly was a winter wonderland. The snow sat on the pine trees just as you would see in a wintery christmas picture and the snow and ice made the other trees completely white. I only wish that it had been daylight so that I could have posted pictures but although it is still pretty out there it is nothing like last night. Hope you can all imagine what that might have looked like. This was one of the few times that make me truly appreciate winter...just to look at though! LOL. Well, more on weight loss later. Denise February 26 Discovery!!!I have made a discovery... This week I allowed myself to eat out, eat cookies, eat basically whatever I wanted BUT made sure I STUCK WITHIN MY ALLOWED CALORIES for each day... well it backfired so to speak... I didn't lose anything! I am not overly happy with myself BUT I didn't gain so that is a plus... starting today I plan to eat well as well as stick to my calories without the greasy, salty, chocolatey FOODS!
~ Tara February 25 Realization!I came to the realization today that one of the major reasons we are staying psyched, challenged, on track or whatever we call it, is because here, and only here, do we feel free to flaunt our fat because we are proud of what we are doing about it. Never before would I have taken pictures like the ones posted in the beginning of this challenge and posted them for anyone to see. Biggest Loser and MSN have turned this into something as natural as waking up and going to work. We are changing our outlook as well our health and looks! I am pumped! Denise February 24 It was a great day!Went to the gym today and did an entire hour of cardio, instead of exhausting me like some days I was especially energetic today. YEH! Went shopping and bought new workout socks and some Merrill shoes and then we went out to dinner. Tara and I asked our friends to go to Applebee's because they have a Weight Watchers menu. We totally stuck to our lifestyle change today and I am hoping to drop into the 170's in time for Tuesdays weigh in (sitting at 180 right now). Tara told me tonight that she is so totally psyched to succeed. It makes a mother proud to hear this from her. Taras husband even stated that his temperment has improved since joining the gym and eating what we eat. His love handles are almost completely gone and he is not even in the challenge. My husband is doing more at the gym and is really working at new and different meal plans for us. This is a WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN for this family of 4. Let's all keep it going for a long time. Denise February 23 Biggest Loser planner recipeI promised recipes that I like and here is a really simple breakfast:
1 banana quartered
Spread peanut butter on banana
1 scoop of flavored yogurt (the recipe calls for Boston Cream Pie flavor but I know this can be difficult to find, Yoplait makes it)
Sprinkle with granola or high fiber crunchy cereal
It is delicious! Another!Down another pound and feeling great! By journaling I have found that keeping within the 1200-1500 calorie guideline has gone well...but, in reviewing my daily intake breakfast and lunch are wonderful. It is the evening that I need to change up a little. Seems I snack on Sherbet, 100 Calorie packs, etc. Guess it is time to change these things to fruits, maybe pita chips with hummus or just something healthier and more wholesome. I'll bet the weight will even come off faster if I eat the better choices. When this challenge is over I think we should ban together and keep these spaces/contacts going to continue encouraging each other. What do the rest of you think? Denise February 22 Denise Down 7February 20 Tara's Down 10 lb PHOTOSFebruary 19 Slow but steady!Well, we are going slow but steady, my weight is still the same but this week will be a breakthrough (I can feel it). We are dealing with head colds this week so skipping the gym tonight is a must but we will do some biceps, triceps and shoulders while watching The Biggest Loser. I am happy with the overall changes that have taken place in this household. Everyone is eating healthier and will benefit in the long run from this challenge or more precisely, new lifestyle. Denise
I, Tara, worked out yesterday for 2 1/4 hours so I don't feel so bad that I can't go tonight due to head/sinus problems. Logging my food intake has really made me see where my calories are spent throughout the day and I have found that lunch is my biggest meal. It gives me more energy to complete my day at work. I weigh myself every day and I know I shouldn't but it is addictive so I've been measuring myself as well which I have found is very addicting as well. I had set a short term goal of losing ten pounds and my reward was getting a new hairstyle. You will see my new look in our new video this week. Tara February 17 Changing it UP!First of all woohoo to my mom! GREAT JOB!!!
Secondly, I have been changing it up recently, doing a little bit of different cardio machines, JILLIAN MICHAELS says that is a way to come out of or possibly not hit a plateau!!! So we'll see, I don't need a plateau~ nor do any of us here in this challenge!
I DID IT!I finally broke my record and did 40 minutes on the Eliptical. Previously I did 20, then 30 and had set a goal for 35 minutes this weekend but I exceeded my own expectations today. I am happy!! Denise February 16 Back on track!OK, I blew it for Valentines day. We did not exchange any fattening things with family, however, my coworkers placed little bags of candy on all the desks and I must admit that I ate it. As a result I refuse to step on the scale until Tuesday. I will be at the gym 1 1/2 to 2 hrs a day until then. My husband bought the Biggest Loser Weight Loss Planner at the check out at the grocery store and even he admitted that the recipes in this planner sound really good. Check it out! Denise February 13 OUR MOMENT ON TV!We were featured on THE BIGGEST LOSER last night!
After six weeks and a lot of sweat, we had our moment of fame! We were very excited to see our debut and if you missed it... don't worry we taped it, so CHECK OUT OUR LATEST VIDEO just above this blog~~~!!!
~Tara and Denise February 12 Hmmm... not sure how I feel :IHmmm... not really sure how I feel or how I should feel about this one...
this week I didn't lose anything - not even a pound - BUT as my prior post says, I am into the next size down in clothes...
I am usure how I feel, at this point in my own game against my weight... I need to see those pounds shedding off but in retrospect the lower pant size feels good! Then I turn over again and think that I am only 1 pound away from being back into the bigger size :(
I need to see those pounds gone - forever... I can't help but KNOW and SEE that I still have 34 lbs to lose!!!
oh, somebody shed some light on my horizon, please! I need it!
~Tara February 11 Success!Today I wore a blouse that Tara handed down to me after completing her first 10 lb. loss. Well, everyone at work commented on how much weight I have lost and loved the blouse, so I guess I can get a new wardrobe from Tara as we continue our weight loss journey. Keep up the good work everyone! Denise New and Old sizes!!!Well, I was very excited both yesturday and today about clothes. Like I had said previously in another post, I do not SEE a difference in the mirror but I feel it in my clothes and in measurements!!! Yesturday, I went shopping for a particular pair of pants I have been wanting but they were a little on the expensive side. So I waited... and waited... until yesturday when I could wait no longer. The jeans I was wearing were getting baggy in the butt and thigh area, so when I went into the clothing store I took a chance and tried on the size below what I was wearing... and THEY FIT! PERFECTLY!!!
AND it just so happens that the size I tried on and fit so well was a size that I had about 10 pairs of jeans in up in the attic. SO.. you say... well Derek, my husband got down my bin of jeans and I tried them on... and half of them fit GREAT! the other half will fit perfectly in prolly about another 3 to 5 pounds~!!!!
This has given me a boost of confidence and motivation to keep on going and get into yet another size lower!!! YAY, GO ME! sorry, but about gloating BUT AFTER ALL we have to be our own biggest fan! It is what keeps us going on the inside!
always here and always working at becoming a healthier me,
~Tara February 09 About Time!Seems like I stayed at the same weight forever, finally broke the cycle this morning. Now I wish the cycle of having to do housework could be broken...just wake up and have everything clean and in its place. Anyone have a magic wand? Anyway, have a great day! Denise February 06 PoundsOK, we all talk about muscle weighing more than fat and I for one absolutely believe it...but, first the scale did not budge and now it is up a whole pound from yesterday. This is not good for the psychy. I want it ALL so I guess I will stay off the scale until...lets say Saturday, keep up the workouts and eat even better than this past week (and I thought I was really good). I am off to pack my lunch and get ready for work. More tomorrow friends. Keep up the great work! Denise |
