January 30 Blew it dayWell, today I blew it. I ate a donut this morning...gave myself permission even though I knew I shouldn't. The rest of the day has been right on track, even made up a few of those extra calories. Tara is sick (looks like the flu) so she isn't eating anything, apple juice is about the extent of her intake today. Not a fun way to lose weight and we were even going to Syracuse NY on Friday making this a double edged sword. Oh well, we will survive and I will get right back on track now that I have had my taste. Syracuse would have ruined me anyway...there is a place called "Twin Trees" and they truly have the best pizza ever. We go there as our 1st stop every trip so I will be saving myself by not going. I don't even enjoy pizza in New Hampshire as no place has ever come close to Twin Trees. Well, enough for tonight. Denise January 29 What in the world....What in the world is going on! I worked out more than I have since we started the challenge... and I DIDN'T LOSE ANYTHING!
This morning was weigh in and the scale read the same as last week! I feel defeated...
I will try not to ruin the diet or my day... but what in the world happened... I have felt so good this week... then this!
Whatever, I WILL overcome this defeat!!!!
~Tara (stuck in a road block; street name: Weight Loss Highway) Staying on track!I know that there will be times that I weaken and even slip up. But, right now this challenge along with Jillian Michaels site has kept me 100% since January 1st. I am shocked to have made it 4 weeks without a slip up but am thrilled at the same time. Each day gives me more courage to say no to those goodies AND am starting to really believe that sugar makes you crave more sugar. I do not crave the candies/sweets and easily said no to an ice cream sundae yesterday. The worst part now is when something tastes so good (filet mignon)it is hard stopping at 3 oz. rather than consuming larger portions. I saved myself last night by reminding myself that the leftovers will make a great lunch.
Getting caught up in the Biggest Loser challenge is and will be the best thing that I have done for myself today and everyday!!! Loving it in New Hampshire. Denise January 28 I AM ME!For sure, it is a new one for me! 3 days in a row of working out... holy moly I must be getting in the swing of things!
Sometimes I wish my friends would understand... I may not be almost 200 lbs or over but I have been struggling with my weight for years. If I hear one more, "but you're not fat, you are thinner than me" I think I might scream. IT ISN'T all about the weight, it is about becoming healthy and getting the most out of my life... I hate saying, I don't want to go swimming, hiking, running, going to the beach, etc... because I feel like I look horrible or that I will be holding back the people I go with because I am panting and stopping every 12 feet to "rest". I know that I don't look horrible persay BUT my body image is way below par.
I have some friends who remind me daily that they have soooo much more weight to lose... well do you know what I say to that... "DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!"
I am doing something about it... and so far I feel great about it. I am committed to my lifestyle change and it makes it better that my mom and I are doing this together and bringing in the husbands because these are the people we eat with most and if they are on board there is less chance of temptations around every corner.
My mom never tells me she has more weight to lose so I shouldn't feel so bad about my weight. Instead, she encourages me to go to the gym and build up my self confidence and body image.
Many people wish they could look like other people: models, actresses, other thin women on the beach who are wearing those bikini's we have always wanted to wear.
Well, I don't want to look like those women because I am not those women and I can NEVER look exactly like them. I gain weight in different places, lose weight in different places, I am shorter than most of those women, and I have a different figure. I WANT TO LOOK LIKE ME! But a fit, healthier version of me. One I can be proud of and not be afraid to wear those bikini's, or low rise pants, or sleeveless T's.
I AM ME! and that's the only person I will ever BE! Personal TrainingHi everyone, I had my final stress testing done and the cardiologist said I am in better condition than my age and weight would indicate as average. I can truly "GO TO TOWN' with my workouts now. We did our 400 crunches and my 200 took 9 minutes with the help of ab crunch machine. Tara will post hers today (she is still sleeping). My cardiologist offered to be my personal trainer should I win the BIG prize. He must watch the show because I hadn't said what the prize was, only that Tara and I were in the challenge. Only hope I can take him up on the offer. Oh well, enough for now, gotta go to work. Keep going!! January 26 I deserve it!The way I (Tara) see it, we are all allowed to go out once in a while. I am going to make an execuative decision for myself that I would not be able to stick to any type of lifestyle change if I could not take a day off once in a while. Last night, my friend Rachael and I went out to a local bar to celebrate our graduating college. We student taught in the same elementary school and became very close while doing so. I finished in December and she just finished yesturday. So we went out to celebrate that as well as being offered full time jobs at the same elementary school.
My point is, I ordered the Buffalo Bird which is a buffalo sauce drenched chicken breast on a bun with bleu cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion. with a side of fries. When I ordered, I had them replace the fries with a side salad and balsamic. When the meal came I took the bun and everything off and ate the buffalo breast with a little bit of ranch. I had one mudslide (tons of calories). But thats it!
I have to allow myself to eat what I want every now and then. I deserve it! It also prevents me from craving all the bad stuff and completely falling off the wagon!
As of this morning I gained .7 BUT weigh in isn't until TUESDAY! even if I only lose a pount it will be worth it!
I Deserve it!
~ Tara healthy eatingI don't know about the rest of you but I am finding that eating healthy is very costly. I agree with Jillian in her book she says no more excuses such as "I don't have the money", but just can't believe my food bill. Normally I would spend $60 one week and $100 the next but I have not gotten away with any week for under $150. Worth every cent of it in the end though! Good luck this week. Denise January 25 remember the challengeOK all interested in the challenge of 400 sit up/crunches. It ends this Sunday so we had better get moving. The dinner video that I promised is probably a bomb...can't load up 8 short clips into 1 (or at least we don't know how to make it work) so I apologize for that and I must say it came out really good. Oh well, next time we will plan it differently. Be sure to look at Jillian Michaels site to get the recipes for Pork Medallians and Asparagus with caper sauce. Be sure to rinse the capers, they are very salty and someone might just laugh at you as my husband and son in law did when they discovered I did not rinse. Good luck to everyone in this challenge...we can do it!! January 22 Good and Bad Tuesday!I have a few things to say, first of all I look forward to Tuesdays because it is Weigh-in Day!!!!, it is The Biggest Loser Day!!!, and my mother and I work out for 2 hours while watching The Biggest Loser at Planet Fitness on the TV's!!!
Today We accomplished all of these things! We spent 2 hours at the GYM! and burned so many calories that we had to eat protein bars afterward so that my mother's blood sugars didn't fall down to 28 again, YES I SAID 28! If you are familiar with blood sugar numbers you will know that this is BAD VERY VERY BAD! But do not fret I gave her a good talking to and we reached the agreement that she will forever now keep protein bars in the car for her safety!
Okay, on the the BAD part of this Tuesday, if you watched the Biggest Loser, you know that the PINK TEAM was VOTED OFF! UHHH, HELLLOOO YELLOW TEAM..... DiD YOU know that BETTE SUE is hilarious and that they would be a great asset to the rest of the game! Oh well, my rant if over! Just thought ya'll should hear our rant!
If you loved the PINK TEAM and mourne their dissapearence, you should post it in your blog too...
VideoI said that we would have a video taping of making dinner with Jillian's recipes however we are having difficulty loading this size video. It really is coming and if anyone has any hints on programs that can handle a little longer video please let us know. Thanks so much and keep losing!! January 21 We CHALLENGE YOU!!!My mother and I would like to CHALLENGE EVERYONE to complete 400 crunches alone or as a team combined. See our event page for more information! This Challenge is supposed to be fun so do not get discouraged if you cannot complete all 400 alone... In time, you will be able to do 400 crunches and you can make this a goal!
Slow but SteadySlow but steady is how I can describe my weight loss at this point. Can't be too disappointed, 1 pound a week is steady progress. Gook luck to all. Today we will post the video of our dinner preparations from last evening...keep watching! January 20 Tonights dinnerHi, Everything is going well. Tonight we will be video taping the makings of our dinner, which will be from Jillian Michaels site. She has delicious meal plans! If you like pork tenderloins with rosemary and mushrooms stay tuned for the next video clip.
To all of our friends out there...Keep up the good work!!
Denise January 18 Inches vs poundsWell, the scale is moving VERY slowly...but...the inches are coming off. My clothes are looser, my rings turn on my finger but the scale is slower than a turtle. Some day the pounds will match the effort, soon I hope! January 16 WE ARE...We are scaleaholics ! I, Tara, have always been someone who weighed herself every morning! My mother weighs herself often as well. But this time, something new happened... after years of weighing ourselves daily or close to that... gaining a pound after going out to eat... losing a pound here and there for eating well... gaining a pound... losing a pound for this and that...
Something happened~ We both worked out extremely hard yesturday at the gym... and ate well and followed our plan to a T... then we stepped on the scale this morning and both had gained a WHOLE POUND! What is up with this crazy world?????
The only difference is... usually this would have been my last straw! Eating well and working out and gaining a pound!!! WHY US? WHY NOW?
BUT then I took a step back and remembered that every season of The Biggest Loser, someone always gains a pound even when they stuck to their plan to a T just like we did!
We are not going to be defeated! We will not give into temptation, nor scale humiliation! WE WILL WIN ~ NOT THE STUPID SCALE THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO BREAK !!!!!
January 15 Yeah!!We did it...went to the gym for 1 hour and 50 minutes. Tara burned 486 calories on the treadmill tonight. I (Denise) did 10 min. warm up on the eliptical trainer, 20 minutes on the bike, a circuit of weight machines and some free weights, just can't calculate calories burned on that. We feel great and also watched the "Biggest Loser" while working out. Not bad for one night if I do say so myself. January 14 Homemade Fantastic Vegetable Beef Soup!!!A creation by the cook in the family known as DAD (Dean)!

The amount of each vegetable is up to the cook... some people like more broth while other like it more hearty!
A 1cup serving is about 100 calories! It is very filling and, calorie wise, allows for an evening that you just can't live without BREAD!!! January 13 Great Day!!I, Denise, accomplished doing Jillian Michael's workout this morning and then 60 minutes on the Eliptical machine and treadmill. This is a big accomplishment for me and I am "PROUD OF WHAT I DID FOR ME" today. FINALLY!For the first time since the Million Pound Match-Up began I (Tara) went to the gym! YAY GO ME! We had recieved a challenge to do 1000 steps, and being Sunday the 13th it was too late to complete the challenge BUT... I used this as motivation! My mother and I stepped on two stairmasters at the gym. Within a few minutes it proved to be too difficult for my mom due to medical issues... so she went over to the treadmill! AND I KEPT on trucking it all the way to 1200 steps within a half hour! The first 5 minutes dragged on and HURT SO BADLY! I thought my legs would fall off after 10 minutes. But After the 10 minute mark I assumed it was do or die! I knew if I quit that would be who I always was an exercise QUITTER! So I finished the challenge and got to 1200 steps! I burned just over 200 calories doing so and then moved onto the treadmill next to my mom! I continued on the treadmill for 40 minutes burning 180 more calories!
So it was a good workout, if I do say so myself... AND I also discovered that the Stairmaster is NOT EVIL and I did not DIE! |
